I've been trying to customize the gallery3 themes the whole day, the documentation they provide is seriously lacking and your post clarified things a lot. I still don't understand what all those php methods do (like page_top(), site_status() etc; they obviously generate some html, but where is it defined what?), but the YUI cheat sheet was a big help with fixing sizes wrt. rest of my website. Looking forward to know how you've customized the header and the footer, so far I had to do that in a very brute force method and I'm sure there is a more elegant way to make things look right.

Re: GoDaddy is really annoying

Friends Anna Drobycz-Maher, 41, and Lisa Jarvis, 49, set up A&L Recruit, with advice from Sheffield Enterprise Agency which delivers start up support under Sheffield City Council's Enterprise programme.
I know that I can take for granted the idea of being social and having a social online presents without regard for my own privacy. but I still have to have the awareness that I am ultimately responsible for my privacy.

I admit that after a few years of being on facebook that it is a great tool for connecting with friends that I might not otherwise be able to in real life. My FB experience has been good to indifferent, but mostly positive at best. I understand that in efforts to keep FB free of charge it relies on advertising, and peaking curiosity enough to entice a click on an ad. I also understand that the more public I could choose to be on FB the easier it is to target specific advertising to my interest.

I personally would like FB to continue to be free to use and I would be willing to trade a very, very small portion of my privacy; namely my interest if it would help target advertising to my interest, and be worth the "click" if I choose to indulge my curiosity. When I first started using Facebook I was annoyed by the ads on my page. At one point I was seriously offended by an ad that pop up. I quickly realized that I could close the ad but another would open in it place. Some time after that I was able to take a survey about the type of ads on FB and I had an opportunity to state why I did or did not like an ad. Soon after I noticed how the ads were very geared to my interest and what I did for a living.

Granted, I feel that my privacy online is my right to keep. Regardless of who's service I choose to sign up for; free or otherwise; I believe my private information is my private information and I should be the only on deciding how and were it gets used and for what purpose.

My hope is that Facebook's interest in my personal information and post are for a legitimate and practical use if it pertains to targeted advertising to help support this site. But I also understand that in the pursuit of the all might dollar I am hoping that FB is not leveraging or misusing my personal information and post to gain of more revenue dollars.

Re: Book Review: GEEKS, GEEZERS, and GOOGLIZATION by Dr. Ira S. I understand the choice not to make much money (i.e. just break even with a basic salary) - but the idea of no plan to make money drives me crazy (which also shows I have a low risk tolerance).

That said, with current disruption in the economy in terms of job (i.e. a lot of people can't get one) there may be a lot of new companies popping up - as it's better than doing nothing....

Re: Book Review: GEEKS, GEEZERS, and GOOGLIZATION by Dr. Ira S. It's interesting how the more things change the more they stay the same. Your statement "There are a raft of “Web 2.0″ companies popping up – many of which don’t seem to have a business model" is verbatim what we heard in the late 1990s if you substitute the words "Web 2.0" with "dot-com." Ironically that was when your Generation was entering the workforce and the Boomers were complaining about all the start-ups without business plans. See...what goes around comes around!.
Your outlook is great and I hope my book can have the same impact on many others too. Spread the word and keep in touch!

Re: Living with abandon

There are many things in that film that are simply inspiring to me as a Christian.

A generator works better b/c they are cheaper, smaller, lighter (the size that are owned by village co-ops are, say, no more than 1000 Watts) and people totally understand engines and how to fix them. There is always someone who has a motorcycle and he usually fixes the generator as well. Maybe 20 years away?
